Time to Get Fit | Nike Dual Fusion Trainers

Hi Everyone! So if you read my 'New Years Resolutions' blog post, you will know that one of them is to start going to the gym. I'm always a bit wary of going to the gym but that is going to change if I want to get fit, healthy and toned. I'm sure the majority of people make a new years resolution to 'get fit' or 'use the gym' as January is the time when we all feel guilty for stuffing our faces a tad too much over the festive season. However, this time, I intend to stick to it. I'm feeling quite motivated to go this year and I think the reason for that is my new trainers. I know it sounds ridiculous but having something nice and comfortable to wear on my feet makes the whole process of going into a gym full of strangers that little bit less daunting.

A few months ago I made an attempt at going to the gym but as I didn't have a job at the time and couldn't afford any decent trainers, I always felt too self conscious to go in my tatty old shoes. I know its sad, but its a fact of life, everyone wants to fit in and the gym is one of those places we are at our most vulnerable wearing no makeup, sweating and being 'on show' to the other gym-goers. Maybe its just me and my self-concious ways but I personally felt uncomfortable.

With this being said, I decided I needed to get some new gym wear so I would feel comfortable and confident going to the gym. I bought a pair of nike pants, a couple of vest tops with built in support (always a good idea girls) and then some Reebok 'tone up' trainers. Now my plan was to go to the gym in my new gear three times a week and finally be happy with my body. However, plans changed and I ended up going to Australia for five months. I decided to take my gym gear with me and work out while I was there but after two or three attempts over there, I decided I would rather spend quality time with my family who I don't see very often instead of being stuck in a gym. When it came to the end of my time in Australia, I packed and was convinced I hadn't forgot anything. However, what had I left behind? Only my brand new £65.00 bloomin trainers. I didn't expect my dad to post them over as shipping would cost a fortune so I set about looking for a new pair.

I'd always had my eye on trainers with a colourful sole. I have no idea why, maybe its the 'girly girl' inside me but I always thought they looked great when I saw other people wearing them. So as you can imagine, I was absolutely thrilled when I was contacted by XLS Medical asking me if I'd like to try these Nike 'Dual Fusion' trainers. I immediately said yes as they were exactly what I'd been looking for. Not only were they a great brand but they had pink soles, yipee! When they arrived for me in the post I was overjoyed at how lovely they are and I cannot wait to start wearing them to the gym this year. Paired with my black nike pants and a vest I think they will look great. I'm hoping they will also give me the confidence to finally go to the gym regularly and not care what anyone else thinks. After all, everyone in a gym are there for the same reasons - to get fit and healthy!

If you like the look of these trainers, they are available for £52.00 in the Debenhams sale here.

Do you go to a gym? Do you ever feel uncomfortable?

Lots of Love,

  1. Gorgeous! You lucky lucky girl! These trainers are beautiful! Im so jealous! I want them!!!! Pretty!! - I'm exactly the same as you - how funny. I can't afford to spend money on a decent pair of trainers yet and so that puts me off gymming it.. I end up staying in and doing some kind of work-out DVD instead but it's a lot less fun then getting out there and meeting other people whilst working out. Maybe after my first pay cheque of my new job I'll treat myself! Enjoy wearing these bad boys honey, you'll definitely turn heads! And good luck with the health & fitness vibe :-) I'm doing the same. xxxxxxxxxxxx

I might start using them for actual sports. LOL. x

  3. These are so nice. I'm reluctant to work out in my usual footwear for fear of funny looks, but often trainers are too masculine so I never buy any! I would definitely buy these though! x

  5. I bought some Adidas gym shoes yesterday for the exact same reason! I started the gym at uni last year but was wearing completely unsuitable trainers there. I think they do make you feel more motivated, I love how light mine are and I'm sure they will make running on the treadmill more comfortable :) Mine are white with pink soles but yours are really nice too! x

  6. I am exactly the same as you, I put it off for ages because I didn't have good enough gear. I went out and bought myself a new sports bra and that has definitely motivated me. I have a pair of Adidas running trainers I'm wearing, but they're a bit tatty and it makes me feel like I stand out! It's probably no big deal though, and I just need to give them a good clean off. Even so, I'm going to head off to the gym tonight after work, and bust my little butt off!

My latest excuse was that I don't have a swimming costume so I can't use the paul/sauna/steam room/showers! I have a shower at home, it really needn't be a big deal!

  9. These trainers are so pretty! I think actually owning good stuff to wear to the gym would make me want to go more. At the moment all I've got is some tennis shoes, £3 joggers that are too big for me and old t-shirts. Good luck with keeping up your exercise :)

  11. Love these, I got some trainers not so long ago that aren't Nike but look quite similar! :) I'm hoping to start going to the gym quite a few times a month but haven't started yet. I'm enjoying doing the 30 Day Shred at home and hoping to get some jogging done too! :)

  13. I envy your motivation to join the gym, although being sport myself, joining the gym is something I'd like to and NEED to do but the thought of it just scares me, I'm choosing work out routines at home and runs in the park! Love the trainers!

  14. I just did such a similar post on my own gym experiences and my gym kit as a result of my (and probably every other female in the world's) new years resolution too haha!
If you have a look at it let me know what you think!

I love your trainers too, I had the Reebok easy tone and the ones you have now are better, the rounded sole on the Reeboks which speed up toning are really bad for your ankles if you want to do anything in them other than run so now you have some pretty pink ones to help you be healthier :)

    Good luck! XX

  15. I tried going to the gym a few years ago, but that only lasted a couple of months. I felt really uncomfortable exercising and sweating in front of strangers. There were some older men there too that would always stare at the women working out and that creeped me out. Another thing that made me think "ewwww!" was the fact that some people didn't properly wipe down the machines once they were finished using them. They would just walk away from the machine leaving a huge puddle of sweat behind -- yuck!

  16. I know exactly what you mean. I think going to the gym is a enough to make you self conscious on it's own so I definitely understand wanting to look and feel the part and a part of it all.

I need to pick some up some trainers too. My friend is training for the London marathon and I decided I'd get my health kick that way. I've never been too bothered about it before but I think I've reached the age now where I realise I really need to start taking care of myself!

Good luck with the gym, let us know how you get on. xx

  17. I really need to invest in some good suitable trainers if I want to take going to the gym seriously and slimming down for my wedding in July! There is something about the colourful soles that just draws me to these too! I prefer darker coloured trainers too.. Probably from the stigma at school you got if you had bright white trainers at school it automatically made you uncool! haha

  19. I was the same as you 100% - I used to go to the gym on occasion but last June I signed up for a membership and have been going 2-3 times a week ever since and i LOVE it. I used to be SO self-conscious but now I will find myself sprawled out on a mat after doing one too many sit-ups, all pink and sweaty and not care at all. In fact, when I see people I know at the gym, I am worried about talking to them while not looking my best, but instead of them commenting on my glowing face, when I bumped into a friend the other day they said 'wow you've done lots of cardio! that's so good, I wish I could do that'. Now whether that was because they were watching me or could judge purely from my radiant face, I didn't care because I knew that I had done good and they were a bit jealous of my motivation :)

I'm so jealous of those gorgeous trainers too!! I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some similar :)

    N xoxo.

  21. These are fab! I'm currently a student and can't afford a gym membership (#girlproblems), so have taken to jogging where I live, and am still in my three year old white and gold leather adidas trainers - classy. These look lovely though, I'm a sucker for a coloured sole too, I think it's the yearning for Loboutins that's done it! xx

  28. I love getting new workout gear! I treated myself to some new Sketchers Go Run and a Lululemon running top & crops with my Christmas money, I like wearing cute clothes while I workout! I don't go to the gym but I do a lot at home and I run outdoors as well. For the new year I'd like to try a spin or yoga class but I am far to shy/ feel uncomfortable when I have to go somewhere I don't know ~ so we shall see! For the moment I will stick to my workouts and runs :) I hope you get the fitness bug Kayleigh! x

  29. They are LUSH. I just have basic trainers at the moment but really need to save up and get a nice pair, might make running easier than my cheapo ones.

I normally go to the gym three times a week but cram in classes on those days like there's no tomorrow, but since starting my new job which is an hours drive away I'm finding it really hard to fit gym time in :( hopefully once I've settled in more it'll be easier! I've bought a pilates dvd to keep me going though :) Just had a little stalk of your outfit posts youre totally my new fitspo!

  31. Oooo these are gorgeous, really like these.

I use to go to a gym, but I stopped going because I felt self conscious on the treadmill! {Stupid, I know}. I use to run a lot at school (many moons ago), and I do enjoy it, but in a room full of people who are gawping, I just couldn't get into it, and as a result, I stopped going and cancelled my membership. I do however want to start going again - it's just building up the confidence to go and think ''Ahh sod it, let people stare'' lol
