Yes I went there. I jumped right on board the baby lips bandwagon. I told myself I wouldn't but after little to no convincing (okay - no convincing at all) I popped this little tube of cherry goodness into my Boots basket. I'm guessing all of you reading this know what the Maybelline baby lips are but just incase you're unfamiliar, they're the ever so hyped and well loved lip balms that have recently made their way across the pond to UK stores. Thats right, once upon a time, these little lip balms were a US only product which is part of the reason everyone rushed out to buy them when they arrived in the UK.
At first I have to admit I thought to myself "its a lip balm - whats all the fuss about" but when they started popping up all over my favourite blogs, I began to see the appeal. They're fun - its as simple as that. From the cute name 'baby lips' to the brightly coloured plastic packaging and various flavours and scents, they're a gimmicky product that everyone wants a piece of. They're the beauty blogging equivalent of Pokemon stickers and beanie babies - who remembers those childhood favourites? The baby lips lip balms are not an essential product but they're fun, cheap and appeal to everyone. After all, most of us use lip balm so if we can have one that looks cute and has a delicious scent, why the hell not?
The shade/flavour I chose is 'Cherry Me' as it looked like one of the more pigmented shades and I LOVE Cherry scented products. Cherry Drops were my fave sweets as a youngster and this lip balm smells exactly like those - its divine. As for pigmentation, there isn't a lot but it definitely gives my lips a berry stain and a 'my lips but better' kind of look. I've been reaching for this product over a lipstick for work as its so easy to slick on in a morning and works well with an understated makeup look.
The packaging and scent/flavour (what ever you want to call it) definitely get a thumbs up from me but does this product actually do its job as a lip balm and hydrate my lips? I'd have to say yes, yes it does. Don't get me wrong, it isn't the most moisturising lip balm I've ever used but I quite like the fact it isn't super heavy on my lips and instead feels silky soft and hydrating upon application. As I said earlier, I've been wearing this for work most days and since using it on a daily basis with regular re-applications throughout the day, I've definitely noticed an improvement in the condition of my lips. I usually suffer with dry flaky lips all year round but this has definitely amped up the hydration in my pout and got rid of any dry patches.
So, do I like this product and does it live up to the hype? In my honest opinion, YES! I'm always pessimistic when trying massively hyped products incase they're a complete let down but this lip balm has proved to me that more often than not, the hype is worth listening to. It isn't a groudbreaking product, its only a lip balm after all but it is one I've been enjoying using on a daily basis. For £2.99 I have zero complaints and I can't wait to get my mitts on the rest of the collection. See, I told you. Gone are the days of collecting stuffed animals and stickers - its all about the lip balm these days. Hehe!
Have you tried the baby lips yet? What do you think?
Lots of Love,

'They smell like cherry drops' - You've officially done it. I must buy one of these! The first ever time I ate a cherry drop I choked on it and my mum wouldn't let me eat them again for years, ahh memories :)

ReplyDeleteI LOVE mine. I haven't actually bought one from the UK though, I got stocked up with American ones so I'm working my way through them. It's such a pretty colour and scent which is quite subtle.

So guilty of not wanting to fall for the hype. My 14 year old sister had about three of these and she naturally goes along with any hype with nice packaging and I basically didn't trust anything she fell for. Well long story short I now am the owner of a baby lips balm and my sister only has two now instead of three. Woops :P

I went there too. I couldn't help myself! I love the name BabyLips too for some reason. I think it has a sweet and girly image about it..couldn't resist! x

Bought all the colorless ones a year or two ago in Singapore before they reached my country, but now they're already available in Indonesia and i want to collect all of the tinted ones too! The packaging in Asia is slightly different than the US/UK version though.totally love them!
ReplyDeleteI have just got one in pink punch and can't wait to see what it is like! x

I own two Baby lips (quenched and pink punch) and I love both so much! I keep Quenched in my school bag and apply it throughout the day. Pink Punch has the slightest pink tint which I love for a little color.

Lovely Notions
I have the same colour, and I love it but I'm not sure it is quite up to the hype. Although it smells delicious and is very moisturising.

I think I'm the only person who's a bit on the fence about these. To me they just feel a little too greasy and synthetic, just like a film that drys up my lips, still fun just not balmy enough! I love the idea of them though !
ReplyDeleteSophierosehearts x
I've being tempted to buy them like you but I've being really hesistant whether to buy because of the overhype! You may have persuaded me though...

I bought the Baby Lips in pink punch and unfortunately it didn't do anything for my lips. It does have a very pretty colour to it, I just wish that it hydrated more.
