Loreal Infalible Eyeshadows | Sahara Treasure | £6.99 | Link
After hearing a few of my favourite bloggers raving about the Loreal Infalible eyeshadows - I just couldn't resist any longer and had to pick one up to try for myself. After looking at some swatches online, I decided to go for the shade 'Sahara Tresure' as it looked like a good neutral shade that could be worn on an everyday basis and it also reminded me of MAC 'Woodwinked' which is my favourite eyeshadow of all time.
Firstly I absolutely love the packaging of this product - the cute plastic jar with screw top lid is so pretty and although this product is called an eyeshadow, I'd say its more like a pressed pigment. When I first swatched it on the back of my hand, I was absolutely blown away by the pigmentation. I kid you not, its like liquid metal. I hope you can see just how pigmented it is from my swatch above. I was also right about the Woodwinked comparison - the shade and metallic finish are almost identical.
Now although I thought the pigmentation was absolutely incredible from the swatch on my hand, I have to say I wasn't quite so impressed when I applied this to my lid. I found it came out quite chunky and uneven at first and it required a lot of blending. I'm not sure if its the brush I was using or whether I didn't use enough but I definitely wasn't thrilled with the results. However, I did try applying it with my finger before blending with a brush and this technique seemed to work much better for me.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed with this. I wanted to really love it after all the hype I've read but for me personally, it didn't live up to expectations. Don't get me wrong, I'll still use this product as the colour is beautiful but in terms of texture and application when applied to the lid, I just can't get it to work as well as I'd like. It certainly doesn't compare to my MAC Woodwinked either - the colour is definitely similair but the texture is miles apart. I probably would give another one of these eyeshadows a try as I'm curious to see if its perhaps just this shade thats the problem. If you've tried this shade in particular, let me know what you think as I'd love to know if anyone else found it quite chunky and glittery too.
Sorry for the pretty negative review today guys - I'm really disappointed I haven't fallen in love with this product as I had high hopes for it! Oh well - you win some and you lose some I guess?

I actually did a quick swatch of this colour in Superdrug the other day, the colour was stunning but due to the texture I didn't bother buying it. It was the same with both the other shades I tried too. Lovely colours and great pigmentation though so I can see why people like them, I just don't have the patience to deal with the texture and trying to get it to apply how I wanted it to my lids.

That swatch looks totally gorgeous! I have one shade of this, I don't know the name but it's like a sage green color and it's pretty and all but I rarely use it because it's a little difficult to work with, so I get what you mean about the application!

The hand swatch looks lovely though, such a shame its hard to apply :( They have all the best shades in the US. though xx
ReplyDeleteThe swatch does look gorgeous, that's not going to help though. Have you tried using different eyeshadow bases? :) xx
ReplyDeleteit's always a bummer when you want to love a product but it just doesn't go that way, especially since this one looks like it couldn't be anymore perfect for everyday wear x

Such a pretty shade, a real shame it didn't work for you formula wise though. I still haven't purchased Woodwinked but I might have to now!

This is incredibly pretty but what a shame that it didn't impress you. I personally haven't tried these and I was going to but I'll have a re-think now.

I've got a pearly pink shade and a khaki green shade, and think dry they are best patted on the lids with fingers then blended out, or wet a brush a bit and then pick up the pigment. I find this works pretty well. The colours I have I tend to not use on their own though, so maybe that's why it works better.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favourite eyeshadows. I agree that it's quite glittery, but I don't mind it since I mostly use it when I go out or for special occasions. I didn't have any problems with the application or finding it to be chunky, though. I usually apply it with my fingers or with a flat brush and then blend with MAC 217 or something like that.

I have the rust shade from America and love it. I don't have any issues applying it but use a real techniques brush and just blend it out a little goes a long way.

The swatch looks incredible, if only it lived up to its expectations
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous shade, it's such a disappointment that the formula isn't as beautiful as the colour! xx
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about this, shame it's disappointing for you. Considering getting a few from the US - maybe they'll work better? ..

This looks lovely.. such good pigmentation :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous shade it's a shame it didn't work for you. I have one from Aus and it's beautiful. I apply with my finger though otherwise it can get messy.

I really love them. But they really are best applied with a finger in the first instance. Brushes just don't seem to work as well with them I agree they do get a bit chunky with a brush. But they do some lovely colours . I also have flashback silver and that applies very well. xx

Pretty shade! Too bad you are disappointed!

I've been indecisive about this product for ages and this has added to my indecisiveness haha! There are some other drug store eyeshadows I really want to try at the moment anyway so this can be saved for later! Sorry that you were so disappointed with this product xx
