I've been living in Manchester for almost a year now and because it's such a huge city, I'm never short of new restaurants to try out which is great for someone like me who loves eating out! Last week, my boyfriends friend was working in Manchester so he came to stay with us for the week and it's safe to say we went a little bit crazy on the eating front. Let's just say we definitely indulged. We decided we'd go out a couple of nights during the week and my boyfriend suggested we go to Almost Famous which is somewhere I'd never been before, despite hearing so many people rave about their burgers.
We decided we'd make a night of it and go to Almost Famous for food and then head next door to All Star Lanes for a couple of games of bowling. I've been to All Star Lanes before it's so much fun but I didn't realise Almost Famous was next door so it's the ideal night out doing both together. Burgers and bowling - you can't go wrong really?!
As I said, we started the night at Almost Famous and considering we went on a Wednesday night it was SO busy so it's obviously a popular choice. The service was a bit slow as we were waiting a while for someone to take our order and bring our drinks over but our waiter was really apologetic and explained they were under staffed and weren't expecting it to be so busy mid-week. Fair enough I guess! However, despite the slow start, the food was worth the wait as it tasted amazing! It's very canteen style with the food presented in red plastic dishes but I wasn't expecting fine dining. It's the kind of place you go for some indulgent, greasy and stodgy food.
The menu is mainly beef burgers so if you're not a fan, it's probably not for you. However, if you're a burger lover, you can expect to find lots of yummy ones at Almost Famous! Some of them are quite elaborate but I decided to go for the classic 'Famous' burger which is basically a standard cheeseburger with salad and their special burger sauce. It was absolutely delicious and it was safe to say it was demolished in a matter of minutes. I also got some sweet potato fries and the boys got some with bacon bits, cheese and BBQ sauce. They weren't really my cup of tea but they seemed to enjoy them!
When we'd finished eating, we headed to All Star Lanes next day which is a really cool bowling alley. Bowling is not normally something I'd think to do on a night out but All Star Lanes makes it more cool with its fab decor, comfortable sofas and tables on each lane and drinks served while you're playing! However, the shoes are just as uncool as always unfortunately! Not a good look with my Aztec shirt dress - I should have really planned that one better! Fashion faux pa!!
We played three games while drinking lots of yummy 2 for 1 cocktails - I went for the gin and Elderflower cocktail and it was delicious! When we finished our games (I lost every time against the boys despite a couple of good strikes - boo!), we headed to their lovely bar area which had a really nice cosy atmosphere. It's a shame it was a week night as I could have definitely stayed and go merry.
We had such a great night and I'd really recommend both Almost Famous and All Star Lanes if you live in Manchester or plan on visiting. If you don't fancy going to clubs, this is a great alternative! However, if you prefer going to clubs on a night out, I'd also highly recommend this the following day as a greasy burger, fun game of bowling and a few cocktails are sure to sort that hangover out!!
Have you ever visited these places?!
