My Every Day Makeup Routine, The Products I Use On A Daily Basis

It occurred to me the other day that I've never actually shared the products I use on an every day basis with you guys and considering I've been blogging for over four years now, I thought it was about time I got round to it. I personally love reading about other bloggers every day makeup routines and the products they use on a daily basis so hopefully you'll enjoy reading about my routine! I've included everything from primer to highlighter in this post so you can see exactly what I use when doing a full face of makeup. However, I don't always use primer and don't always bother with eyeshadow on a day to day basis but if I'm making a bit more effort, these are my go-to products.

THE BASE
As I mentioned, I don't use primer every day as it isn't an essential in my eyes but I have been reaching for the Too Faced Hangover primer on a daily basis recently as it feels more like a moisturiser than a primer and I love how hydrated and glowy it makes my skin. I'm not sure it makes my makeup last any longer but it does prep my skin nicely for foundation and give my makeup a more flawless finish. Next up is foundation and my current favourite is the Giorgio Armani luminous silk. I bought this after a makeup artist used it on me and I loved the finish. It has a medium to full coverage and a beautiful, is really easy to blend and has a nice dewy finish that makes my skin look radiant, not greasy.

After foundation, it's time for concealer. I'm quite lucky in the respect I don't suffer from bad skin so I tend to use concealer for highlighting purposes rather than covering blemishes. I've been using the Maybelline 'Eraser' concealer for around a year now and it's 100% the best high street concealer I've come across. I love the sponge applicator as it's so easy to apply to the areas I need it and the formula has a great coverage and blends beautifully. It also isn't cakey in the slightest, despite it's great coverage! The final step in my base routine is powder and whilst this isn't essential for everyone, if you have an oily t-zone like me, powder is a must have! I use a combo of the Kat Von D Shade & Light palette and the MAC mineralize skinfinish natural powder. I mainly use the yellow toned shade from the Kat Von D palette to brighten my under eyes and then the MAC powder to set the rest of my makeup. I can't recommend them both enough and together they give my makeup a lovely flawless finish.

THE CHEEKS
I'm not a big blush wearer so my only cheek essentials are bronzer and highlighter which I use every single day. My favourite bronzer is the NARS Laguna bronzer which I've been using for years now as it's the perfect shade for my skin tone - it's not too Orange toned so can be used to contour but it isn't completely matte so it also adds a lovely glow to the skin. In terms of highlight, I've been using the BECCA Jaclyn Hill 'Champagne Pop' Shimmering Skin Perfector virtually everyday since I bought it. It's the perfect champagne shade as she name would suggest and SO pigmented. I only need the lightest dab to create that perfect glowy complexion and I always get compliments whenever I wear it. Totally in love!

THE EYES
My go-to eyeshadow palette at the moment would have to be the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette. I think the shades are perfect for this time of year when I want to look bronzed and glowy and I love how pigmented and creamy they are too. My favourite combo would have to be Luscious all over the lid and Puree blended through the crease. I think these two shades work really well together and make for a really pretty day time look. In terms of eyeliner, I always wear both pencil and liquid. For me, my eyes feel naked without liner so these two products are must-haves in my daily makeup bag. I'm currently using the Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in the shade Black Diamonds and the Collection 24 hour felt tip liner which has been a favourite of mine for years now. No eye look is complete without mascara so I always curl my lashes and apply a couple of coats of Benefit's Roller Lash mascara. This is one of the best mascara's I've come across for giving my lashes curl, length and volume. I love it!!

THE LIPS
I have to be honest, the lip products I use on a daily basis can change quite regularly as I find lip products the best way to change up my look and because I have so many lip products, I'm always trying out new ones. However, I do have a couple of products that I always turn to when I want a neutral every day lip and they're both from my favourite lipstick/liner brand, MAC. In my opinion, MAC can do no wrong when it comes to lip products and I have quite the collection of their lipsticks and liners. My favourite combo for an everyday look and the shades I tend to grab on a daily basis are 'Soar' lip liner and 'Twig' lipstick which are both dusky pink 'my lips but better' kinda shades. I love those kind of shades as they're so easy to wear and go with any makeup look.

What's your every day makeup routine?!

Style | Cute Two Pieces

When it comes to Summer clothing, matching two piece sets are definitely one of my favourite looks to wear. I think there's something really cute about wearing a matching top and bottom half and I especially love little crop tops paired with shorts which is why I was immediately drawn to this Misguided two piece as soon as I saw it on their website.

I also love anything with a Paisley print at this time of year so again, this little set was a bit of a no brainer for me. I think it'll be absolutely perfect for some festivals I've got planned paired with hunter wellies and a flower crown or on holiday with some cute sandals and sunglasses! I also like that it's versatile as it's appropriate for both day and night depending on how you accessories and it could even be split up and worn as individual pieces to create multiple looks. Winning!!

I love the way the top ties at the front too and that's a style I've been seeing a lot of recently so I can see those kind of tops being a pretty big trend this season. I also have to mention how comfortable it is - it's a really lightweight fabric so will be perfect for hotter climates or sunny UK days (if we get any that is).

In these photos I've just paired it with my favourite Quay Australia 'My Girl' sunglasses and my beloved Givency Antigona but as I said, it really is so versatile and will go with so many other items in my wardrobe.

Are you a fan of two pieces - what do you think of this Misguided number?! You can get the top here and shorts here.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture 'The Mats' Lipsticks

As I'm sure you all know by now, I love YSL and I especially love their lipsticks. I have a fair few in my collection that I've accumulated over the years as gifts or a little treat to myself and one of the first I ever bought was from the Rouge Pur Couture range in the shade 'Le Orange', a vibrant orange toned red. I still have it now despite buying it a few years ago and still to this day it's one of my all time favourite lipsticks.

So as you can imagine, when a box of YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks with my name on arrived in the post, I was just a little bit excited. It still amazes me that brands like YSL send me these amazing gifts - if you'd have told me YSL would be sending me a box of my favourite lipsticks in the mail a few years ago, I'd have laughed. It's also really nice to see such a well established brand going the extra mile and personalising the box - little touches like that really do make all the difference and make us bloggers feel valued. Gold star for you YSL, hehe.

Anyway, ramble over - you guy should know by now that I like to go off an a tangent sometimes. Back to the lipsticks - YSL have added five new shades to their existing Rouge Pur Couture mats collection. I'm not usually a matte lipstick kinda girl but this is definitely my favourite formula of YSL lipsticks as they're super pigmented but still feel hydrating on the lips and have a slight sheen to them. If you like a true matte lipstick, the kind that feels dry and stays on the lips for hours, these probably aren't for you but for me personally, this is the perfect formula. In saying that, I was thrilled to see they've added five beautiful and more importantly wearable shades to the range. There isn't one shade I wouldn't wear from this new bunch - they're all right up my street. Here's a little overview of each of them and some swatches ...

No 214 - Wood On Fire
This is a really difficult shade to describe as it isn't orange, it isn't coral and it isn't pink - it's somewhere in between. I'd probably describe it as one of those 90's nude shades - darker than your typical nude but it has brown tones which give it that whole Kylie Jenner vibe. It's actually pretty similar to 217 too, just slightly less Pink. It's definitely a very wearable shade and one I'll be getting a lot of use out of for everyday wear.

No 215 - Lust For Pink
This is the brightest shade of the five but it's also one of my favourites. I personally love a fuchsia lip as I find it a really flattering shade on my skin tone and with this one in particular having blue undertones, it's perfect for making my teeth look extra white! I also think this one will look stunning on holiday with a tan so it'll definitely be coming away with me on the trips I'v got planned later in the year.

No 216 - Red Clash
I wouldn't typically associate red lipstick with the Spring/Summer season but this one is actually really lovely as it's not a classic postbox red or too in your face. I'd say it has pink undertones but also hints of brown too - it's definitely not like any red shade I've seen before but I like that about it as it's unusual and also more wearable for those of you who don't typically go for bold red shades.

No 217 - Nude Trouble
Despite this being called Nude Trouble, it definitely isn't a nude. A my lips but better shade, yes but a nude, no. I'd describe it as a dusky pink and it really is a beautiful shade that will suit so many skin tones. It's one of those you always need in your makeup bag as it's perfect for all occasions both day and night.

No 218 - Coral Remix
This is the lightest shade of the bunch and is what I'd describe as a peachy nude shade. I don't typically go for light shades as I find they wash me out but this one is lovely as it still gives my lips a nice wash of colour and has a nice glossy finish, despite being in the mat collection. This one is definitely a Summer shade and as peach and corals are always a colour I associate with this time of the year.

L-R: 218, 214, 217, 215, 216

The YSL Mats are available to buy here and are priced at £26.00 which is pricey but you really do get what you pay for with these lipsticks.

Have you tried the Rouge Pur Couture Mats? What's your favourite shade?

A Look At Clarins Summer 2016 Collection

I'm a big fan of Clarins as a brand - their skincare range is one of my favourites, as is their makeup. I often find Clarins is overlooked when it comes to beauty as it's most well known as a skincare brand compared to the likes of YSL who are mainly known for their makeup range - if you see what I'm saying? Basically what I'm trying to say is that Clarins makeup range needs more love as it's bloody fabulous!

Their new Summer collection landed at my door a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait to share it with you all as there's some real gems in there that are going to be staples in my makeup bag this Summer. As you can see from the photos, everything is packaged beautifully and whenever I use Clarins makeup - I feel all sophisticated! The new collection consists of six products - a bronzer / blush, ombré eyeshadows, a makeup setting spray, a mascara top coat and a new shade in the lip comfort oil which was released last year and has proven to be really popular!

The first thing I have to mention is the bronzer as Clarins release a new one every Summer and they're always beautiful, not to mention huge! I particularly love this one as it has a mixture of four colours that can be used on their own or swirled together. I tend to use all of the shades together and dust it all over my face with a fluffy brush to warm up my complexion. As one of the shades is slightly shimmery, I find it adds a nice glow to the skin without looking glittery.

Next up are the ombré eyeshadows and I was so excited to give these a try as the shades I was kindly sent are right up my street. I'm always intrigued by an eyeshadow that doesn't have a powder formula too - it's something a bit different and fun. These are basically a creamy eyeshadow and I'm totally in love with how pigmented they are and their beautiful metallic finish. I'm always trying to achieve that strong metallic look with powder shadows but I do find it quite difficult unless I layer it but these shadows achieve that look with only the tiniest bit of product. The only downside to them is that they are quite dry so they can settle into creases. However, paired with a good primer, I can't see that being too much of an issue.

Another eye product that has launched with this collection is the Double Fix mascara. Now I've never heard of this product before but apparently it's been around for a while and this is the new and improved formula. It's a multi-use product that can be used on both the lashes and eyebrows. It has a clear formula and is enriched with bitter orange tree wax which works as a barrier on the lashes so you can make any of your favourite mascaras waterproof and it also doubles up as a brow tamer to ensure they stay in place all day. I personally wouldn't spend £20 on this product as I don't feel it does much of make all that much of a difference to my makeup but that's just my opinion, I'm sure many people would find this a very handy product to have in their makeup bags!

Next up we have the fix makeup spray and again, this isn't a must-have for me. I feel these kind of products are nice to have as a luxury but I don't find they do enough to warrant their price tag. This spray is designed to set makeup in place and whilst it feels refreshing on the skin and helps with dewiness, I unfortunately haven't noticed a difference in the longevity of my makeup after using this product. I think it will be a great product to have to hand in the Summer months when I was to refresh my face but I do feel there's lots of cheaper alternatives that do the job just as well (the Avene Eau Thermal Spring water spray is a personal favourite of mine).

Finally we have the lip comfort oil which is the only product in the collection that I'd already tried. Clarins released their original lip comfort oil last year and I was really impressed with it - a clear oil that nourishes the lips but doesn't feel sticky. It's a great item to have on my bedside table and I thoroughly enjoyed using it throughout the winter months when my lips were a little on the chapped side. Clarins have obviously noted how popular it was and have now released a selection of new shades including this one which is called Red Berry. At first I thought 'a berry shade in a Summer collection' but since trying it, I can see why Clarins chose this to be one of their shades as it's the perfect 'my lips but better' kind of shade. that enhances the natural lip colour and adds a beautiful glossy shine.

There's a few winners in this collection for me - the bronzer, eyeshadows and lip oil are all products I'd recommend you try! However, the double fix mascara and fix makeup spray are products that I could take or leave so I guess it's totally down to personal preference and what you're looking for in a product. Either way, Clarins products are always such beautiful quality and this collection is no different so if you haven't checked out their range yet, head to your local counter for a little look.

Do you like the look of this collection?!

Style | Crushin' On Camo

If you'd have told me I'd be loving all things camouflage a few years ago, I'd have laughed in your face. Me? Camo prints? No, no, no. The only time I'd ever worn camo print was at fancy dress parties when me and my friends thought dressing up as army cadets and covering our faces in 'war paint' was a good idea. Oh the memories. However, fast forward a few years and camo has made its comeback and I for one am loving it! I've been converted.

My friend Debra recently came to visit me in Manchester so we headed out to take some outfit shots (what a gem she is - helping a sister out!) and this is one of the outfits I put together. As first I wasn't sure a mix of stripes and camo was going to work but Debra reassured me it worked and I have to agree as when I looked back at the photos we took that day, this was my favourite look by far! It's a little bit out of my usual comfort zone but that's why I love it. I'm usually quite a girly girl but this look is more grungy / sporty and it's definitely a look I'm going to be rocking more often.

As I said earlier, a few years ago I wouldn't have touched a camouflage clothing unless it was for a fancy dress party. However, this Miss Pap camo jacket  (10% off with code KAYLEIGHJ10) has completely changed my opinion on the trend. It's one of those really easy pieces to wear and an item that can instantly transform an outfit to give it a more stylish touch. It's also a great piece to wear on those days where you're not feeling all that body confident (I've been having a lotto those days recently) as it's oversized and hides a multitude of sins.

I decided to pair the camo jacket with this cute monochrome striped skirt I picked up from Matalan a few weeks ago. I'm not usually into wearing anything tight fitting during the day and typically opt for the more floaty and comfortable items but this is honestly so flattering and the material is fairly thick so there's no risk of a VPL. Considering it only cost me around £8, I'm super impressed with the quality and it's definitely one I'll be getting a lot of wear out of over the Summer months as it looks amazing paired with cute crop tops.

Talking of crop tops, the one I'm wearing in this post (online here) is another recent purchase, this time from Boohoo. I'm really loving the Boohoo website at the moment - I do find it takes a bit of searching for things I like because there's SO much on there but it's definitely worth the searching as I've found some total gems recently. This top was ridiculously cheap at £8 and it's just one of those great basics to throw on with a skirt like I have in this post or a high waisted skirt. It's super comfortable and I love the lace up detailing on the front which makes it a little more interesting than a plain white vest!

To finish the look, I wore my favourite Adidas Superstar trainers which I'm totally obsessed with and my Quay Australia 'My Girl' sunglasses - again, I'm completely obsessed. I love how both of these items add an instant cool vibe to any look - even though that's the complete opposite of what I actually am, haha! My handbag is my Zara office city bag which I bought a few months ago now and it's been glued to me every since.

Hope you like this outfit guys! Are you a fan of the camo trend?!

Monthly Favourites | May

Hey guys! Happy Friday - I hope you're all really well. I'd like to apologise for my lack of posts recently - I've had zero motivation to do anything at the moment due to medication I'm taking. It makes me feel so tired and de-motivated but is also really helping me in other areas so it's a tough one and something I'll be speaking to my doctor about. It upsets me that I'm not 'feeling it' at the moment as blogging is something I enjoy and I want to have that feeling of drive and motivation for it again but I just don't feel like that about anything at the moment - all I want to do is nap. Eeek! Anyway, despite that slightly depressing intro, I'm finally back with another post (even if it did take me all day to find the energy to write it) and it's my May monthly favourites! I can't quite believe it's June already, where is time going? Anyway, here's my recent faves..

Kat Von D Shade & Light palette; As most beauty lovers are, I'm a little bit obsessed with contouring and highlighting so I'm always buying a trying new products in an attempt to give me chiselled cheekbones. For quite some time I was using the Anastasia contour palette and while I do like it, it's not a patch on the Kat Von D Shade & Light palette. I was first introduced to this by my little sister who had got it from my boyfriend her birthday. I obviously had to try hers out and I instantly fell in love. The powders are so pigmented and easy to blend and the best part, they actually work. My favourite two shades are the two in the middle of both rows! The yellow shade is unbelievable - it brightens my face so well and totally covers dark circles. It also looks amazing on photos - total Kim K highlighter vibes. The contour shades are all fantastic too as they're very natural and don't have orange tones so they create what looks like natural shadows on the face.

Aveeno Moisturising Creamy Oil; I have to be honest, I'm not someone who moisturises my body on a regular basis. I know I should take care of the skin on my body just as much as I *try* to take care of the skin on my face but you know, it's just one of those things that's never been my top priority. It always feels like a bit of a chore. However, since trying this Aveeno moisturising creamy oil, I've been moisturising a lot more frequently. I think the reason for that is because it's such an easy product to use and it sinks into my skin within seconds so there's no need to stand around waiting for it to sink in. It also feels super hydrating and leaves me skin with a gorgeous glory sheen. I'll never be someone who moisturises their body every day but once or twice a week is better than nothing, right?

Elemis Biotec Skin Energising Day Cream; I was recently sent this product alongside two others from the same range and I've been really enjoying using them, especially this day cream which I've been using every morning to moisturise my skin before applying my makeup. I won't go into the science of these products as I do intend to do a full review of the whole range soon but what I will say is that this is a lovely moisturiser and makes my skin feel super hydrated after I use it. As with all Elemis products, I feel it's actually doing my skin some good every time I use it. As I said, I'll be reviewing this in full so keep your eyes peeled for that.

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer; Being the idiot that I am, I totally forgot I'd already featured this in my April monthly favourites - oops! With this being said, here's what I had to say about it last time as nothing has changed. At least you guys know it's a firm fave!!

This product has been in my makeup collection for months and months now and until recently, I’ve never really used it. That’s what happens when you have makeup coming out of your ears – things get forgotten about and then when you finally try them, you think ‘why have I not been using this until now’. Anyway, this is one of those products. Other than looking absolutely stunning (the glitter running through it is too pretty), this is also one of the best primers I’ve ever used as it makes my skin feels silky smooth and perfectly prepped for makeup. It does have a silicone feel to it so if that’s not your thing, maybe stay away from this one but for me, I love it and my makeup always goes on much nicer when I use it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow; I'm sure you've all heard of Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow before as it's gained a bit of a cult status when it comes to eyebrow products - and for good reason too. I use this to fill in my eyebrows every single day and I love the effect it gives. You only need the smallest amount to create a perfect brow that lasts all day long. I use it with the ABH angled brow brush and start by lining the top and bottom of my eyebrows to create a nice shape before lightly filling in the centre and blending the product out at the front. I use the shade medium brown which I find to be the perfect shade for my brows as it's just slightly darker than my eyebrows and has an ashy tone rather than orange which make it look more natural.

Anastasia Beverly Hills 'Spice' liquid lipstick, Revlon 'HD Petalite' Ultra HD lip lacquer & NYX Tres Leches butter gloss; Lip products are most definitely my weakness when it comes to beauty products so I'm always trying new ones from my collection. These three have been my favourites at the moment - Anastasia Beverly Hills 'Spice' liquid lipstick, Revlon 'HD Petalite' Ultra HD lip lacquer & NYX Tres Leches butter gloss. I love the pigmentation of the Anastasia liquid lipsticks and the fact they last all night, even when eating and drinking. This colour is right up my street too - a vibrant orange toned red that instantly brightens up my whole complexion. As for the Revlon and NYX products, they've been my go-to neutral/pink shades for the past few weeks. The Revlon gloss is a beautiful pinky coral shade and super glossy with a shimmer through it meaning it's perfect worn over a lipstick or even on its own. I also find it makes my lips look bigger, winning! As for the NYX butter gloss - its a gorgeous rosy pink colour, has amazing pigmentation and a lovely glossy finish. It also smells like Vanilla - yum!! I definitely need to get my hands on more shades in this formula as it's totally perfect.

Beauty Blender; I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this look sponge - it's seriously revolutionary. I know I'm super late on the beauty blender bandwagon and I should have listened to the hype a long time ago as this thing has made all the difference to my makeup routine. It was actually my little sister (again!) who influenced this purchase as I used hers one day and couldn't believe how well it applied foundation and blended under eye concealer. I was using the Real Techniques sponge up until that point and whilst it's good, it's not a patch on this one. I don't know how to explain why it's so amazing - it just makes me makeup look much more flawless as it blends products into the skim seamlessly. It does need to be damp when used which can become a bit of a pain so I don't use it every single day but before a night out or special occasion when I want my makeup to look its best, this is a must have.
