Getting Back To Blogging & Goals For 2017

Hey guys! I hope you're all well and had the most amazing Christmas and New Year?! I haven't posted for the past couple of weeks as I wanted to have a really relaxed Christmas with my family after what's been a stressful few months. It's safe to say 2016 wasn't the best year for me personally - it may have looked amazing on my social media what with me moving into a new house, getting a new car and being shortlisted  for a Cosmo blog award (all of those things have been amazing might I add) but towards the end of the year, a close friend of mine lost his battle with cancer and all of a sudden, none of those other things were a priority. It really confirmed to me that spending time with loved ones and taking time off to have that quality time is so important as you just never know what's around the corner. Life can be so cruel which is why it's so important to live it to the full while we can. It also made me appreciate what I have in life and think twice before moaning about irrelevant things - there's always someone with bigger problems.

With this being said, I wanted to write a post about my goals for 2017. I know some people think 'resolutions' are someone cringeworthy but I personally think a new year is the perfect time to set yourself some new goals - its almost like wiping the slate clean and starting with a clean slate. It also gives you something to work towards and the incentive to keep bettering yourself to reach those goals. When you lose someone close to you, it really does put everything into perspective and make you realise that you need to live every day like it's your last so if there's things I want to do, there's no better time than the present to do them. Anyway, before I start rambling - here's a few of my goals for the year ahead.

Walk 10,000 steps a day; this might sound like a random one but since I started working from home, I've realised just how little steps I do on a daily basis. After doing some research, 10,000 steps a day is what we should all be aiming for and my current average is 3,000. I know, so bad! I've definitely noticed weight has started creeping on since I've been less active so I want to nip this in the bud asap and get my walking shoes on. Matt and I went for a walk on Wednesday night so I could up my steps for the day and I actually really enjoyed it - it gave us some quality time together discussing what we'd been up to during the day and a break from social media. What's even better is that it didn't feel like a chore - I actually really enjoyed it. Apparently 10,000 steps burns around 500 calories so if I could do that every day without changing anything else, I'd lose 1 pound a week. It's a no brainer.

Blog three times a week; I'm adding this in as I'd love to get back to blogging three times a week. As I mentioned, the last three months have been very stressful so if I'm honest, blogging hasn't been my top priority and I haven't felt like writing about makeup when there's been much more important things happening in my life. I also had nowhere set up for blog photography until recently as we've only just got our house fully unpacked and all the furniture built. Trust me when I say moving into a house is stressful and was in nowhere near as easy as I expect it to be - look out for blog posts all about my new house and the buying process soon! I keep getting asked about it over on Instagram so don't worry, it's on my to-do list.

See more of the world; Last year was the year of saving money for our mortgage so we didn't get to go away as much as I'd have liked to. I absolutely love visiting different cities and countries so this year, I can't wait to get some trips booked so I can see more of the world. I'm heading to Australia in March to meet up with a friend and see my family who live there so I'm super excited for that and a holiday to Greece is on the cards for June. I'd love to book some more city breaks too - Barcelona, Paris and Rome are at the top of my list. Matt and I decided we'd like to try and visit 30 new cities before we're 30 (3 and a half years to go, eek!) so I'm hoping to get a few ticked off my list this year.

Finish decorating my new house; As I mentioned earlier, buying and decorating a new house is not an easy process - in fact, it's anything but. You don't realise just how much things cost until you're faced with the need to buy them and you certainly can't do everything at once, unless you have a huge disposable income. We've managed to do quite a lot with our house since October and it's now in a liveable state with all the essentials but there's still so much more I want to do with it and by the end of 2017, I'd love to have it all finished and exactly how I want it. I'm most excited for Spring time so we can design our garden and host the most epic BBQ for all our friends and family!!

Do more charity work; When my friend was diagnosed with cancer last year, all of his friends and family, myself included, have done all we can to raise money for the charities that helped him throughout his illness. We've hosted various charity events and in 2017 I'm planning to run over 40 miles to raise money for Christies and Macmillan. I know it's going to really tough but knowing I can raise money for such a good cause and one close to my heart will give me all the motivation I need. I'd love to do more for charities this year and help those in need - it's such a rewarding feeling knowing you're giving back and as someone with a large social media following, I'd love to put that into helping others.

I hope you enjoyed this post guys and I promise my blogging will become more regular again very soon. Bare with me! I'd love to hear what your goals are for the new year so let me know in the comments below. Ps - if you like what I'm wearing in this post, head to my Instagram @kayleighjcouture to find out where the items are from.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It's great that you and others have been raising money for charity though, that's such an amazing thing because every little does help. A new year is definitely a good time to set goals. Going on walks are great, not only to they get you out and about but they're so good for your mental health!

  7. Helping out more charities is such a good resolution, surprisingly charity work hardly ever pops up on people's resolutions lists. I received a FitBit for Christmas so I'll definitely be joining you on the 10k steps per day!

  19. Welcome back Kayleigh. I cannot wait to see what you get up to this year. I myself, I would definitely love to start giving donations to charities like Cancer Research UK etc. I am planning on going on my first solo holiday with some friends later this year and I would love to be able to move onto my second year of uni and get into posting regular contents on my blog (http://nounicornswereharmed.blogspot.co.uk/) and also more fun videos on my YouTube channel(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE1mFizqQvcvTaYC4qEAIaA)

  23. I'm so sorry about what's happened to your friend. I'm sure he would be proud of you for the charity work you're planning to do. It seems like everyone knows someone with cancer these days, which is awful. My nan is terminal and another family member is having chemo (starting tomorrow actually) and my fiancé's mum died from it aged 55. Good on you for supporting this important cause. : ) xxxx
